Times-7 Portal System UHF RFID Doorway Antenna has maximum coverage for complex loads - Four antenna units provide dual-sided RAIN RFID coverage, making the Portal System well suited to wide openings, tall pallets, variable load dimensions, and mixed-product environments where greater read-zone coverage is required.
Controlled read zone with a smaller keep out zone - Focused 50° beamwidth and high front-to-back ratio help concentrate RF energy within the intended read zone and reduce unwanted reads outside the portal. This allows for a smaller keep zone, which is particularly valuable in space-constrained warehouses and multi-lane environments where tagged goods may be stored or moving nearby.
True circular polarisation for variable tag orientation - True circular polarisation supports reliable tag reads when tag orientation cannot be controlled, making the Portal System better suited to varied packaging and diverse product loads. Combined with dual-sided coverage, this provides greater flexibility when designing RFID infrastructure for complex warehouse applications.
Practical installation - All Times-7 Portal SKUs use localised rear-exit cabling to keep antenna connections within arm's reach. For dual-sided installations, such as in the Times-7 Portal system, the Cable Bridge accessory provides a dedicated route for cables across the portal, supporting a clean and organised installation.
Reader Compatibility - Compatible with standard RAIN RFID readers, allowing system integrators to select the reader that meets their deployment requirements.

Warehouse Receiving and Dispatch - Positioned at dock doors, the Portal captures every tagged pallet, carton and item as goods move in and out. Its focused 50° beam reads only the target lane, minimising phantom inventory events caused by cross-reads, while the IP54 rating supports permanent installation in busy dock environments.
Distribution Centre Operations - Portal's configurations adapt to the varied pallet heights and product types found in high-volume distribution centres, from RF-friendly apparel to challenging liquids and metals. Validated 100% carton-level reads keep goods flowing without slowing operations
Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Facilities - For cross-docking operations handling mixed clients and product types, the Portal's reader-agnostic design integrates with any standard RAIN RFID infrastructure. Configurations can be tailored per lane or per client, delivering accurate, auditable reads across diverse freight profiles
Liquor and Beverage Distribution - Liquid-filled glass and metal cans are among the hardest products for UHF RFID. The Portal was validated specifically against both, with the Portal Unit configuration achieving 100% carton-level reads on both item types, making it well-suited to beverage pallets.
Retail Back-of-House Receiving - Portal verifies inbound stock at carton and item level as it arrives, improving inventory accuracy from the moment goods enter the storeroom. Its compact footprint and simple assembly suit space-constrained back-of-house areas.
Grocery and Cold Chain Distribution - With an operating range of -20°C to +55°C and IP54 protection, the Portal performs reliably in chilled docks and demanding grocery environments, keeping fast-moving, time-sensitive goods tracked accurately through receiving and despatch.
RFID cabling in three groups:
1. Jumpers - included - Each Portal ships with the patch cables that link the upper and lower antenna units within a tower: 4 with the Portal System, 2 with the Portal Tower. The Portal Base has no upper units so needs none.
2. Internal cables - reader to antennas - Every configuration includes a universal reader mount, and the internal T-slot lets the reader sit at whatever height suits the site, on either the upper or lower unit. Cabling is rear exit, so these runs stay within arm's reach of the antenna connections - 2m generally covers it.
3. External cables - tower to tower - Only needed on the dual-sided configurations, where the reader lives in one tower and has to reach the other. Length is driven by the dock door width and the route. Our Cable Bridge (part 75691) is built for this: it gives a dedicated overhead run across openings of 2.4m to 3.2m instead of taking the cable up and over the door frame. Allowing for the height of the tower at each end, 8m is the length I would put on a Portal System quote. Cables can also be routed along the surrounding wall or structure if the site suits that better.
So a Portal System with the reader inside one tower is typically 2 internal plus 2 external cables. A Portal Tower is 2 internal and no external. A Portal Base is 1 each side.
On RFID Readers, the imes-7 Portal System RAIN UHF RFID Doorway Antennas is reader agnostic and the mount takes any standard RAIN RFID reader. Port count is what matters: the Portal System needs 4 antenna ports, the Tower and Base 2 each. Our own testing was run with an Impinj R700 RFID Reader.
